Obituary For Gus Parker, Jr.

Gus Parker, Jr passed away Saturday morning of March 14, 2026. He was born on September 6, 1941. Gus Parker Jr was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He lived a life rooted in faith, love and purpose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Eldora Parker, his aunt, Dorothy Jackson Ross, his brother Haywood Odell Parker, and his sister Caroline McKinny Vaughn. He is survived by his loving brother, Joe, and his loving sisters, Mary, Verna, Ann, and Bessie and his loving wife, Delores Parker.

Gus was a proud and dedicated father to Rodney (Glinda), Eric, Gus III (Leah), and David, as well as his daughter-in-law, Gelaney. He was lovingly known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Makayla, Haley, Micah, Madison, and Kiyah, Joaquina and Terry-who brought immense joy to his life. He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, LaLani, who continues his legacy of love. He also has a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

As a young man, Gus, had a passion for boxing, which later translated into a meaningful way he connected with his sons. Through his passion, he instilled in them the importance of discipline, fitness, caring for their health, and protecting the people they loved-values that will continue for generations.

Gus retired from the Gaston County Housing Authority after years of faithful service. One of his greatest milestones, though, was his unwavering faith in Jehovah, having been baptized for over 50 years.

He was a man of many admirable qualities. He had a deep passion for his family, which was evident in everything he did. Those who knew him best described him as intentional, loving, kind, happy, intuitive, and dependable. He was unwavering, undefeated, and truly legendary-a gift to all who had the honor of knowing him. Known for his encouraging phrase, “There you go,” when embracing his loved ones. Gus had a way of uplifting those around him regardless of how he was feeling.

He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, and the love he poured into his family. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the family he built. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered until we see our hope realized of seeing him in Paradise”

Send flowers to the service of Gus Parker, Jr.
