She was born Lorene Gregory on October 1, 1947, to Marshall and Viola Gregory. She was their fifth child. Her parents have preceded her in death. Her place of birth was Mount Holly, North Carolina.
She was educated in the Gaston County School System by attending Rollins Elementary in Mt Holly, and Reid High School in Belmont, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. She returned home and worked in Charlotte until she met the one that she would marry. She married Ray Dee Mackey and she moved with him to his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. To that union, one child was born, Dr. Mia Viola Mackey (Arlington, VA). Ray preceded her in death. During that marriage, they relocated to Virginia for several years, and then back to North Carolina where she lived her life out sweetly there. Lorene gave her life to Christ at the age of twelve and became a member of New Providence Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until she moved to Las Vegas where she joined Second Baptist Church. While living in Virginia she fellowshipped with Mt Olive Baptist Church. When she moved back to the Charlotte area, she joined Greater Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina under the leadership of Dr. Fred Gibson. She served as a faithful member until the Lord called her home on Monday; August 8, 2022.
Two of her siblings preceded her in death, Larry, and Herman Gregory. Her sisters, Barbara Gardin, Marcia Rogers, and Sonja Wylie (Winston) and brother, Samuel Gregory will cherish many loving memories. In addition to her daughter, another special princess will cherish those memories, Naimah T. Moss. She has a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral on Saturday; August 13, 2022 at Greater Providence Baptist Church, 2000 Milton Road, Charlotte, NC at 1:00 with thirty minute visitation before the service
