Obituary For Mavis Brown

Mavis Brown was born on December 17, 1957. Mavis was called to her eternal rest on October 31, 2021. She the youngest of 10 children of the late William” Ruff’ Brown and Elizabeth ‘Pat” Spears Brown.

Mavis accepted Christ at an early age and often attended Springfield Memorial Baptist Church. She was educated in Gaston County Schools, and later received her GED from Gaston Community College. She was a great athlete and she played softball for the Springfield community. She often worked in commercial cleaning. Mavis loved people especially children. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed playing cards, playing scrabble, watching the Washington Redskins play, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sisters; Ms. Hannah Brown, Mrs. Peggy Bannerman (Peter), Mrs. Doris Graham (Melvin), brothers; Roy “Bookie” Brown, Charles “Foxy” Brown, Robert Lee “Bob” Brown, George “Toby” Brown, and Thomas “Tom” Brown.

Mavis leaves to cherish memories to a daughter, Kenya Elizabeth Brown of Charlotte, NC; bonus son, Herman Bratton (Cham) of Gastonia, NC; brother, Freddy Brown (Vicky) of Cleveland, OH; sister Alberta ‘Dee Dee” Mclean (Marshall) of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Viewing at the funeral home on Friday; November 5, 2021 from 6 until 8

Funeral on Saturday; November 6, 2021; 11:30 a.m.; Mt. Zion Restoration Church, Gastonia

Visitation: thirty minutes before the service at the church

Interment: West Creek Cemetery, Mt. Holly

on behalf of my siblings and myself, we are deeply sadden of the passing of our Auntie by choice & love. We are praying for Kenya and the Brown family and will miss Mavis more than words can even began to explain. She loved us and was always there when we needed her even if it meant dropping what she was doing to run to our bedside if we were sick or to step in and babysit if we needed a sitter.
