UPDATE
Mozelle Alston Cathcart. age 75, passed away September 24th, 2022. She was born in Henderson, NC on May 25th, 1947, to the late James Alston and Martha Balthrope. She was married to Alonzo R. Cathcart Jr. who passed away on October 30th, 2022.
Mozelle graduated from Henderson Institute in Henderson, NC. She graduated from Johnson C. Smith University and was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She retired from the Employment Security Commission after thirty plus years of service. Mozelle previously served as chairman of the Gaston County Board of Elections. She was a faithful member of Neely’s Grove AME Zion Church where she was a member of the Trustee Board, President of the Deaconess Board, and a Life Member of Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She is the former Director of Christian Education and served on the Stewardess Board and Kitchen Committee. In her spare time, Mozelle enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, shopping, baking, watching soap operas, cheering for the Carolina Panthers and listening to gospel music.
Survivors include her son, Anthony Cathcart of Gastonia, NC; daughter, Tonda Cathcart Kee and husband Tony of Gastonia, NC; Sister, Juanita Alston (Nathaniel Stovall); Grandchildren: Phillip Cathcart and wife Katy, Trent Cathcart and wife Danielle, Douglas Edgerton, Briar Cathcart, Jordan Chambers and Kameron Kee; Great-Grands: Cheyenne Johnson, Alex Cathcart, Madden Cathcart, Sam Cathcart and Kallie Cathcart; Special niece and nephew: Harriet Cathcart Feimster and Wilbur Cathcart; cousin Lisa Stokes (Ronnie).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Neely’s Grove AME Zion Church 3321 S. New Hope Rd. Gastonia, NC 28056.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Henderson Institute Graduates and Former Students Associations, Inc. P.O Box 2081 Henderson, NC 27536 in memory of Mozelle Cathcart
Mozella was my supervisor at the Employment Security Commission where I was employed part time as interviewer. She was fair and a good supervisor. Alfred Carpenter.

Mozelle and I have been friends since eighth grade. She was a very kind and loving person. I will truly miss our weekly or bi- weekly calls with lots of laughter about the good old days at HI!!!Our most recent short conversation was last week at 4:30 a.m. in the morning!!!!
