Mrs. Sarah Ann Phillips Moss, daughter of the late Sylvester Phillips and Jessica McCollum Phillips was born in York County, South Carolina on April 14, 1926 and departed this life on Wednesday; February 17, 2021 at Brian Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.
She attended Liberty Hill Elementary School in York County, South Carolina and Emmitt Scott High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mrs. Sarah attended Gaston College in Dallas, North Carolina where she received her certificate as a CNA. She grew up in Liberty Hill AME Zion Church and in 1957, she joined Mills Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church under the Leadership of Rev. Mrs. Minnie Chambers, where she served Faithfully as an ordained Deaconess and many other capacities in the church.
In later years, she founded New Mills Chapel under the leadership of Rev. A. J. Lindsay, where she was Number 1 Deaconess, finance Treasurer, trustee board and building fund committee. She worked and was determined we had to get this church built.
Mother Moss was appointed District Mother of South Western North Carolina in 2012. She began fellowship with St. Matthew FBH Church in January 2014. In 2016, Mother received the Pioneering Member Award from Bishop Johnnie L. Davis and the Carolina Districts.
She was married to the late Andrew “Bill” Moss who preceded her in death in the year 1986. She was also preceded by her siblings: Macie P. Thomas, Maggie McCollum Thomas, Robert Phillips, Samuel Phillips, Clara P.Lowery, Geneva Bigger, Henry Phillips and Johnny C. Phillips.
She leaves to cherish fond memories to her son: Michael Moss and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
