Shelia Surratt Shaw, 64 years of age, peacefully passed on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY with her family by her side. Shelia was born on June 7, 1957, in Gaston County to the late Irene Adams Surratt and Elijah Surratt Sr.
Shelia, a follower of Christ, grew up in Lincoln County, NC. She was a 1975 High school graduate and she attended both North Gaston and East Lincoln High School during those high school years. Most of her professional career (24 years) was spent at T.E. Connectivity as a set-up adjuster. She enjoyed all things related to serving God and helping others. Shelia was always involved in various Church activities, including presenting a smile on her face serving as a greeter/usher board member, attending, and assisting with Church conference/events, being part of various church social and advocate groups, and just providing help where needed. Shelia was a very active individual who was known not to stay still. Being the strong, loving, and caring human being, she is, you could find her connecting with other likeminded individuals/family/friends, helping take care of individuals, sending uplifting words, cleaning, or doing anything she could to make a difference in an individual life. Many of her leisure interest included playing Bingo, watching football, and cheering on her favorite team, the former Washington Redskins, listening to music, reading, and connecting with her grandkids. She also has been known to know her way around the kitchen making her signature dishes like Collard-greens, Banana Pudding, and sweet potato pie.
Shelia will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and she wanted everyone to know that she Loved You all and she wish to meet everyone again someday.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Carol Surratt and brother-in-law: James Nixon.
Shelia is survived by her former husband: John Shaw, Jr.; her children: Randall Shaw of Arden, NC, Steven Shaw of Gastonia, NC, and Tasha Shaw of Gastonia, NC and grandchildren: Ivy Shaw, Aydan Shaw, Noah Shaw, Camden Henderson, and Zoey Armstrong who all were the light of her life. Lean and depend on God in times like this. God is the anchor. I knew Shelia for years. Went to East Lincoln High School together. Beautiful smile and was always nice. God picks the best. Rest on my sister.
My Aunt, my other Mom: Shelia was a hard working women who did all she could do for her family. She left this earth way too soon but I thank God that she had a beautiful relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. My Aunt Shelia influenced me greatly. As a very young child (3yrs and up) I saw her manage her household with Grace. She knew how to have a good time and make good times out of nothing. She lived. She was a beautiful women who was loyal to her family. I loved her laughter and her beautiful smile. She always looked for the good in everything and everybody. I'm still numb to her not being here. From this point forward, if you don't know Jesus Christ as your a Lord and Savior, I beg you to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died for you and was raised from the dead. If you did this, congratulations you are now born again. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. This is the beginning of salvation. Now receive the Holy Spirit and renew your mind with the word of God. Discover your life in Christ. This is what my aunt Shiela would have wanted for everyone. God bless you. Shelia, I will see, we will see you soon! Jesus is coming again very soon. Deanna 😘🦋❤️
We love you Nana! Rest in Heaven❤️

Sheila was a kind and beautiful woman, she always had a smile and a kind word for you. She was one of the hardest working women I knew and would always step up to help others out inside or outside of work. Her friendship will never be forgotten. Fly high my friend Christine Falls
I had the pleasure of being in Shelia's EGroup at Elevation Church. We all loved her. She was our friend, our support, our light. I always felt a special connection with Shelia because we shared the same name. I miss her but I am comforted in that we will meet again where there is no darkness. Rest In Peace, Dear Sister. Sheila was one of the first people I met after moving to Charlotte 6 years ago. We met at Elevation Church in Gaston. She always had a smile on her face and would go out of her way to greet you with a hug. We were together in the same E group and she would always share her stories and her love for Jesus. I have many fond memories of her. My prayers go out to her family. Patti M
