Ellen Peterson Butler was born to the late Zander Peterson and Mamie Bosewell Peterson on July 6, 1913. She was born and raised in Eatonton, Georgia where she was educated in the Putnam County School System. The family later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended Grady Nursing School.
Ellen married Joe Butler, Sr. They were blessed with three children: Joe S. Butler, Jr., Sara L. Butler, and Charles W. Butler, Sr. Ellen was a loving wife and devoted mother.
Ellen joined Fairfax Church of God in Christ and confessed her life to Christ, under the leadership of Elder H.H. Ingram. The Church was renamed to Ingram Temple Church of God in Christ. She was an active and loyal member and remained faithful and loyal until God called her home to rest.
Ellen was a loving Christian, always extending herself and home to those in need. She was a very hard worker and gave her skills and talents at Grady Memorial Hospital, Rexall Drugs, and later retired as a domestic housekeeper for the Cummings in the late seventies.
Her kind heart and sweet Christian spirit will be missed by all. She loved everyone, and if she could help you, she would. Her consistent joy in serving others was often shown in the many pound cakes that she would bake for her family and friends on special occasions.
She departed this life on earth, to continue her eternal life with Jesus on Monday, June 9, 2008 at Grady Memorial Hospital. She leaves to cherish her Christian spirit: her sons, Mr. Joe (Bonnie) Butler, Jr. and Mr. Charles (Betty) Butler, Sr.; her sister Mrs. Emma Watts; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Ellen was preceded in eternal life by her husband, Joe Butler, Sr. and daughter, Sara Butler Bohannon.
Sleep on Ellen, take your rest. We will see you in the morning. We all love you!!!
