Obituary For Essie Bell Clark

The late Sister Essie Bell Grooms Clark, daughter of the late Mr. Willis Grooms and Mrs. Corena Thomas Grooms was born in Bullock County; Midway, Ala. on Jan. 7 1912.

She departed this life April 6, 1992 at Phoebe Putney Hospital, Albany, Georgia. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Nero Baptist Church in Alabama. The family moved to Georgia and she joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church. She moved her membership to the New Salem C.M.E. Church. There she served faithfully and was an active member in several auxillaries: a devoted usher; she served as president until she was called home; a missionary and past Sunday school teacher.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Isaac Clark, Sr., on November 29, 1929. To this union 13 children were born. Three preceded her in death. She loved children and dedicated her life to children. As they grew up and moved on, to assure that her house was always full she started raising the 2nd generation. Seven grandchildren and 1 greatgrand; Andrew and Vincent Parker, Sgt. Shirley Johnson, Elliot and Ronald Holt, Sharon Clark, Alterick Clark and Chakema Parker.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories 10 children: 5 daughters, Bessie Clark, Dorothy Hinds and Mary L. Clark-Brown of Patterson, N.J., Sarah Starling of Roselle, N.J., and Betty Clark of Keasley, N.J.; 5 sons, John and Fady Clark of Cuthbert, GA, Isaac Clark, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Homer Clark of Linden, N.J., and Benjamin Clark of Athens, GA; two sisters, Mrs. Callie Johnson of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Mary Key of Cuthbert, GA; three brothers, Mr. Smithy Grooms of Midway, Ala., Mr. Fady Grooms of Charleston, S.C., and Mr. Huriah Grooms of Bonifay, Fla.; 31 Grandchildren; 24 precious great grandchildren, 5 daughters-in-law, Virginia, Georgia, Valeria, Gloria and Karen Clark; 3 sons-in-law, Otis Starling, Joseph Brown and Clifford Hinds; two sisters-in-law, Susie Grooms and Pauline Grooms; two brothers-in-law, Layton Key and Green Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
