Obituary For Joseph Cyril Francis

Joseph Cyril Francis also known as "Ciwo" was born in Soufrier on November 21, 1947 in St. Lucia, to Anthony and Catherine Francis. He was the eldest of eight sisters and two brothers.

He attended primary school in Soufrier, where he attained most of his education. In the early 1980's, he moved to St. Croix, US Virgin Island to pursue a better quality of life. In 1973, he met Vincentia Charles and later they wed. To this union were four children. He also had three children from a previous relationship. Much to his happiness, his children gave him ten grandchildren. Ciwo was a great man, a good son and brother, a loving husband and father, a playful granddad and good friend to all.

Throughout the years, Ciwo would move back and forth between St. Lucia and the Virgin Islands. In St. Lucia, he resided in Bois-Den with his wife and children, where he quickly became part of the community.

The people viewed him as a very educated man and entrusted him with the responsibility as the local representative.

Ciwo was so loved by everyone that the people he encountered in life had given him twelve nick names. He loved mathematics and that's one of the reasons he always had a mathematical riddle to share with his family. While in St. Lucia, he became the business manager of his own business, and later worked on several government projects such as the construction of the tunnel and the water dam in Millet. When he moved back to St. Croix in 1999, he worked for a sub-contractor at Hess Oil and the St. Croix Botanical Garden for a short period of time before he got sick.

In February 2005, he moved to Atlanta to seek treatment for his health problems. He took his responsibilty regarding his health very seriously and never missed an appointment to see his doctors or pick up his medications. Ciwo was a smart, funny, content, grateful and well mannered individual. His dreams were to learn to play the guitar so he would practice occasionally to perfect his skill. He loved to talk and enjoyed being around his family. Although he had numerous health problems, he never complained.

We thank our heavenly father, as Ciwo had already accepted Him as his Lord and Savior and we find comfort to know that He took him home on April 16, 2007.
