Samuel, Eulogist Charles Edward Amos, (also known as Charles Saleem), son of the late Estus Amos and Inez Amos was born on August 26, 1948 in Jackson, Mississippi. Born the second of three children, he was reared in a loving household by his Mother (Inez) and Grandmother (Mary L. White).
Charles was an outgoing child, making many friends that would last a lifetime. Butch, as many close to him lovingly called him, loved singing and music became one of his dearest hobbies. Charles and some of his high school friends formed the Duprees, a soul music group. They traveled across Central Mississippi and the United States performing the groups classic, smooth sounding music.
He attended the Jackson Public Schools, and graduated from Jim Hill High School in 1966. Following graduation, he moved to Compton, California, to start a new life. He adopted California as his new home. While living in California for over 20 years, he met what would be a life-long friend, Kubera Yaksha Williams, and became a student of various religions. Combining faith and his everlasting quest for knowledge, he became a world traveler, and embarked on trips to India, China, Japan, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and beyond. He boasted many global experiences that left his listeners in awe.
In California, Charles also explored his passion for business, acquiring a degree in Business Administration, and entering into Retail Management. This passion for business also led him to various entrepreneurial ventures in the travel and real estate industries. Charles retired from Los Angeles Unified School District in 1991. Lastly, he was employed by Wal-Mart in Atlanta, Georgia and was a travel agent with Our Gang Travel.
Charles loved family and left California in 1991, after marrying the love of his life, Beverly Mayers. Together, they acquired a blended family of two daughters: Sharon Mayers (Atlanta, GA) and Lachele Yvette Taylor (Los Angeles, CA) and settled into the southern comforts of Tucker and Atlanta, Georgia. Whether Georgia, Mississippi, or California Asia, Europe, or the Americas, may Charles Saleem (meaning peaceful in Arabic) forever be at peace.
Charles is survived by his wife, Beverly Amos; daughters: Sharon Mayers of Atlanta, GA and Lachele Yvette Tayolor of Los Angeles, CA; mother: Inez Amos of Houston, TX; grandmother: Mary White of Jackson, MS; brother: Esthus (Verdell) Amos of Cary, NC; sister: Mary Lynne Amos of Houston, TX; several grandchildren; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
