Obituary For Mr. Ernest McWhorter

Ernest Rogers McWhorter was born on February 13, 1948 in Woodville, Georgia to the late Rufus and Helen McWhorter. He attended and graduated from Carver Vocational High School in 1966”. He later attended Job Corp in Arizona from 1968 and 1969 after which he returned to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

Vamp as he was known to family and friends had a passion for old school music enabling him not only to sing along with the artists, but he had an uncanny ability to incorporate lines from the songs in his everyday conversation. Whenever he was asked “What’s going on?” His answer would be, “Ain’t nothing going on but the rent.”

Vamp was known for his sense of humor. Countless times he was able to defuse situations by inserting a word or phrase that all would understand. Two generations of nieces and nephews would vie for his attention whenever he was in their presence. They were affectionally given nicknames by him which sticks to this day. Shan, Shan, the Boogie Man, Candy Apple Red, K-Boone, etc.

He also was compassionate, kind, protective, and loved his family and his baseball cap (which you never saw him without).

He is survived by 10 siblings: Larry Anthony McWhorter (Eula), Margaret Hanifah Huntley (Kefing), Rufus Bernard McWhorter (Margaret), Selma McDonald (Theodore), Samuel McWhorter, Herman Steve McWhorter (wifey), Pastor Lisa Hadley (Samuel), Tracey Deno McWhorter, Stacey Denise Farley (husband), and Sylvester Johnson; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. We cherish his loving memories as well as the good times as family and friends.

Condolences & Tributes

Add A Condolence

Please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of Ernest. We pray our loving Heavenly Father (Psalm 83:18) grants you peace and comfort during the challenging days ahead.

I want to offer my condolences to the McWhorter family and friends. It is a painful thing to lose someone very precious, yet no one else can really know all that you feel except our Heavenly Father. He knows and feels your pain. Allow him to give the comfort you need at this time through prayer as he invites us to do at Philippians 4:6, 7 “…in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God;7 and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” He has promised that under his Kingdom rule he will remove sickness, old age, and death from his human family (Isaiah 33:24; Job 33:24, 25; 1 Corinthians 15:26).
