In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Gary D. Ellis. Celebration of Life will be Friday, July 22, 2022 11:00 am at Grissom-Clark Eastlake Chapel. Viewing will be Thursday, July 21, 2022 12 noon-6:00pm at Grissom-Clark Funeral Home. Grissom-Clark Funeral Home. 404-373-3191. Mr. Gary Dauchell Ellis, the son of the late Grady and Myrtis Ellis, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 3, 1966.
On the evening of July 14, 2022, Gary passed away at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Gary was educated in the Dekalb County School System and graduated from Redan High School. He furthered his education by attending Georgia State University, majoring in Finance. For many years, Gary worked for a prominent home builder and worked in various capacities within the housing industry. However, he most enjoyed being an entrepreneur. He ventured into several businesses that included owning and operating his own home services company. He also assisted others with financial literacy and planning, tax preparation and investments.
Gary was involved in the community as a former PTA member and officer. He served as Treasurer at CW Hill and Hope-Hill Elementary Schools; as well as on the board of the Hope-Hill Education Foundation. Most recently, he had been elected to serve on the board of the Howard Foundation.
He was a devoted servant of God, attending seminary and becoming an ordained Itinerant Elder with the AME Church. He loved serving others and served in community outreach, church leadership and as Youth Pastor.
Gary was an avid reader; he also enjoyed spending his down time repairing cars or doing carpentry work. Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Stephens Smith and brother, Marque Antony Holland.
Leaving to cherish his memory, his wife of 23 years: Mrs. April Ellis. Son; Isaiah Ellis, daughter; Aimee Ellis, brothers; Philip Holland (Robin); Erik Ellis and Sean Ellis, sister; L’Tanya Mitchell (Carlos), father and mother-in-law; Leland and Sandra Lenard, sister-in-laws; Leah Leonard and Cecilia Briggs(William), brother-in-law; Jerald Smith. Nephews; Lloyd and Tavares, nieces; Tonda, Kemyatta , Tesheka, Teshaun, Latoya, L’Trice and Lakia. Close special friends; Steve, Frazier, Tara and Gloria and a host of relatives and friends.
