Obituary For Mrs. Allison A. Foderingham

Allison Adassa Foderingham nee: Richards
March 1, 1925 – January 10, 2025

Allison Adassa (Richards) Foderingham, 99, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 10, 2025. She was born in James Hill, Clarendon, Jamaica, on March 1, 1925, to her late parents Alfred and Louise Richards. Allison’s life was a testament to her steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and her enduring commitment to education, service, and family. She was kept by her Savior and was blessed to live to see the dawn of her 100th year.

Allison was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Noel Foderingham (d. 2002) and the devoted mother to five children.

She was a cherished member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Decatur, GA since 1990, where her husband served as a priest in the early 1990’s. She was a dedicated member of church groups including the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), Daughters of the King (DOK), and a member of her dedicated Prayer Group family, who thrived on scripture, mutual respect, sisterhood, and love for over 35 years.

A proud daughter of Clarendon, Jamaica, Allison attended James Hill Primary School and was a member of the pioneering class of Clarendon College and was the sole surviving alumnus of that first class. After teacher’s college in Jamaica, Allison passionately pursued a remarkable 51-year teaching career that began in Jackson Town, Trelawny, Jamaica in 1947. During two summers she studied to earn a master’s degree in education with a certificate in Guidance & Counseling from Western Carolina University (WCU) in 1977.

In 1983, Allison emigrated from Jamaica to Brooklyn, New York where her husband was a priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She continued to enrich students’ lives at The St. Mark’s Day School and St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic School, both in Brooklyn, NY. In January 1990, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Rev. Foderingham was a priest at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross. Continuing her career, Mrs. Foderingham was appointed Director of the G.E.D./H.S. Program at The Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority (FACAA), where she retired in 1998 after eight years. She dedicated this new life chapter to her beloved husband, Noel, and to also informally teaching some of her best students--her granddaughters! She was forever learning and offering her gift of teaching in her church and community through prayer, poetry, her writings, and service.

Allison is survived by her five children: Monica Foderingham, Winsome Angella Foderingham, Ann Marie and beloved son-in-law Kenton Senior, Joan Foderingham, and Andrew Foderingham. She also raised her nephew Claude “Wardie” like her own child, from age two. She is the proud grandmother to Camille Senior, Monique Senior, Jheanelle Brown, Jacqui Brown, Jordan Brown, and Janayah Hill. She fell in love with her great-grandchildren, Dylan Grace Roth and Elijah James Roth who dearly love their GiGi.

Allison is also survived by her precious sister Reiness Kerr and brother-in-law John Kerr and her loving brother Alfred Richards. She leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved relatives, her husband’s family in Barbados and Trinidad, and faithful friends. Special thanks are extended to her Holy Cross Family and dear friends Chris Wallace and Maya Nichole who visited Allison and brightened her final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 2005 S. Columbia Pl, Decatur, GA 30032 on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11 AM and livestreamed on You Tube and Facebook. The Vigil and Vigil will be held Friday, January 31,2024 at 6:00pm Grissom-Clark Eastlake Chapel.

Mom Allison, as I called her, was a forward thinker and an incredibly talented and intelligent person. We worked together on the Holy Cross newsletter and her contributions in the form of edits and poetry helped make each issue worthy of the community. She jokingly called me her fifth daughter and she treated me with love and affection. I am grateful for the time I spent learning from her and for the privilege of having known her.

I regret that I'm unable to attend her funeral and send my heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the family.

I would like to send sincere condolences to Winsome and the Foderingham family during their time of grief. I know they do not mourn like those without hope as we know we will see her again on the other side of eternity. My family and I enjoyed our brief interactions with her but we have the delight of experiencing her love and passion for Christ as her daughter Winsome shines brightly as a witness. May her soul rest in peace.

Mrs. Foderingham was very dear to me. It's almost as if she adopted my whole family. Of She knew Nigel (my husband) from Munro ( a prestigious high school in Jamaica) days and just embraced me with her loving ways. We talked about life and motherhood and she knew her history and shared a lot of that with me. As a former teacher it seemed as if she was mentoring me and I appreciated it. I will miss her dearly. Our condolences to the Foderingham family. May your peace come from knowing how many of us had or found a connection with your mom and the many things she shared with us. May her beautiful memories live on. Sharon Usher-Grant

From the moment I met Mrs Allison 10 years a go at Holy Cross church, our eyes would lock and we both smile and at each other. A few Sunday later I look for her and smiled and waved me over. She help my hard my hands and asked me my name. After that connection the first person I look for was her. She was my warm and glowing light to the end. The last Sunday I spoke to her, again she squeeze and kiss my hands and wave good by. I haven back to church since her death will always book over my left shoulder wishing she was still there. Family I love and send my condolences, but, wasn't God to allow her be with you for so long.

Praying for the Foderingham family during this time. To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.

Rev. Charles and Dee Togers.

Dearest Mother, we thank God for your legacy of grace and for staying faithful to your Savior to the end. So proud of you that you greeted the dawn of your 100th year and expressed that the Holy Spirit was very present those last few days on earth! "The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭92‬:‭12‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ ❤️ Your Winsome Angella

Having grown up in Mandeville, Jamaica,I had known Mrs. Foderingham for the past 56 years....her family , led by Captain Noel, served God with zeal and fortitude. She was a no nonsense person, kind, and considerate. May her children, Monica, Annmarie, Angela, Joan and Andrew be comforted that their mother was a soldier in the Lord's army and a captain to guide many youthful troops along the battle. This memory adds to the love you ALL share due to your mom's example. My condolences.
