Ms. Bernadette Stuteley, affectionately known as MAMA, Momma B. or Aunt Bernadette was called home on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, after a long fight, being in the hospital for about two or more years. She fought hard with her will and spirit as a Lion to the end. Bernadette Alicia Stuteley was born to Bernard Stuteley and Wilhelmina McCall-Stuteley at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York on February 3, 1951. As a child, she excelled in schoolstarting where the great ones are born in Brooklyn, NY. In middle school, her parents moved the family to Harlem, New York where she continued her schooling in Julia Richmond High School, and then Hostos College in New York, NY studying Nursing. She established a career as a Psychiatric Nurse in Metropolitan Hospital. Bernadette was a very genuine person. She was direct, always speaking how she truly felt. She said what she meant, and she meant what she said. Those who knew her, know what I mean. When it came to Bernadette's family and friends she was very passionate. She was always on their side no matter what. Bernadette also worked very hard to teach her sons to treat all people as human beings with respect. Bernadette enjoyed life. She loved cruising, vacationing, animals, people, and being a caretaker outside of work. She also enjoyed exploring her passion for seafood restaurants with her children. She is predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmina and Bernard Stuteley; and uncles, Bernard Stuteley and Earl Singer II. Bernadette shared her life with her immediate family. She is survived by Mr. Earl Washington and the two of them created two handsome sons, Jarvis (Jojo) and Damon Washington. She raised her boys to men with unconditional love and devotion; along with her grandchildren, Lamarr, Janay, and Nikko; her great grandson, Darrell; and great great grandson, Yahzier. Bernadette is also survived by her siblings, Joan Skeeter-Wallace, Alfonso Stuteley, and Wilson (Willisie) Stuteley; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Aunt Bernadette loves you all, and you know who you are.
