Obituary For Mrs. Chantal Scattergood

Chantal was born in Lorraine, France, on June 17, 1955. Growing up, she enjoyed taking long walks in nearby woods with her elder brother, a habit that brought quiet joy to her throughout her life. Chantal was 11 years old when her mother died and she was placed in an orphanage in France. At age 16, she went to a business school where she learning and clerical skills.

Chantal joined the Unification church in 1976 under Rev. and Mrs. Reiner Vincenz, whom she respected deeply. In 1980, she pioneered a small in England by herself. Mr. Gedfrey, who let her stay in his boarding house, always prepared a meal for her at the end of each day. Chantal liberated him at Cheongpyeong in gratitude for his kindness to her.

Chantal was called to go to America in 1982, working in Oklahoma for several years. In 1988, Chantal had her first bout with breast cancer; the disease went into remission after surgery. One year later, she and Malcolm were matched and blessed by True Parents in Korea. They began their family life in September of that year in France. Chanta returned to America in 1990, pregnant with Iris.

In 1991, breast cancer reoccured. Chantal went through chemothapy and surgery, while Iris was only a year old. Malcolm was working two jobs and fundraising trying to support his family. As soon as she could walk, Chantal went fundraising with her husband.

Family and friends remember Chantal in Atlanta attending ACLC meetings, driving Japanese missionaries around, supporting Women's Federation for World Peace events, going to Israel several times in support of the Middle East Peace Initiative, and pioneer witnessing for 40 days in a small Korean village.

Chantal's legacy is living every moment of life as a gift from Heavenly Father and investing untiring love and reconciliation into this fallen world. She exhibited courage and strength working to bring God's kingdom of peace as she battled her illness. Her life is a testimony to her love for True Parents' vision of One Family Under God.
