Virginia Ginny Bauer Tuttle, 87, passed away peacefully on December 15, under the care of hospice, at home in Ansley Park, with her family at her side.
Ginny was born on February 25, 1923, in Wausau Wisconsin, the daughter of Evelyn and Ralph Bauer. As a member of the founding class of The Cadet Nurse Corps in 1942, she became a pediatric nurse at Childrens Hospital in Boston where she met Elbert Tuttle, Jr., a student at The Harvard Medical School. They married on January 25, 1952. In 1955, the Tuttles moved with their three small children to Atlanta where they have lived ever since.
Once the children were in school, Ginny began a successful second career as a caterer, preparing meals and planning parties all across Atlanta. Her cheese wafers, cheese biscuits and chicken salad were famous. Later she served as an administrative assistant for the Southeastern Kidney Transplant Association and for the Division of Nephrology at the Emory Clinic.
Above all else, Ginny had a spirit of service; she was action oriented and wherever she saw a need she was ready to help. She was an active volunteer throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband, Elbert, her children Guy Tuttle and partner Bonnie Gould, David Tuttle and partner Luz Hansen, Jane Tuttle, Beth Tuttle and husband Bob Carragher, and Richard Tuttle, her grandchildren Katie Rouse and husband David Rouse, Amy Cannon, Maggie Carragher, and Jimmy Carragher and her brother Tom Bauer.
The family will receive friends at The First Presbyterian Church Berean Reception Room Saturday, December 18 from 4-6 PM.
