Obituary For Mrs. Ruby Phillips

Ruby Phillips was born on April 19, 1926, in Clayton, Alabama, to the union of the late Buford and Rosa Lee Daniels. On Monday, September 14, 2009, she peacefully transitioned in her sleep from her Lithonia home. She was the oldest of five daughters, two of which proceeded her in death.

At age sixteen Ruby graduated from A.H. Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the youngest graduate in her high school class. Upon graduation, Ruby and her family mad e a journey north to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she began to craft a life of her own. ruby enrolled in secretarial school to develope her career. Subsequently, she became a hard working civil servant, landing her first job with the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs. Later she worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration adn the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Over the course of her life, she diligently served our nation's government for 37 and a half years. Upon retirement from the U.S. Federal Government, she migrated to Atlanta and managed her son's Primerica Financial Services office for thirteen years.

She made St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Germantown her spiritual home. Years later, St. Barnabus merged with St. Luke Episcopal Church, where she was an active member before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1985. In her now enviroment, she joined St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church and was a devoted member of the Shephard's Staff, greeting new members of the church.

Later in life, she found a new hobby in card making, producing more than of fifty original "Ruby Designs" before her death. She developed this new passion at the Lou Walker Senior Citizen Center, attending weekly classes and learning the art of craft. In addition to card making, Ruby was also skilled in crafting homemade soaps, lotions, clothes and suprisingly -- hats!

Im March of 1947 she married the late Stanley Arthur Phillips. From their union, two handsome sons were born, Kevin Arthur and Keith William. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin ans sisters Ernastin and Jeanetta. She is survived by her son Keith (Deborah); daughter in law, Cynthia; sisters, Lena Miles and Margaret Hall (Fred); brother in law, Ted Moore; grandchildren, Adryane, Byron (Melba), Jessica, Sara, Chelsea, and Mackenzie; and two step great granchildren, Marty and Mina; nieces, nephews, great neices and great nephews, cousins, and a host of other family members and friends.
