Hazel Bankston Sherrer was the fourth of seven children born to the late Charlie and Eva Dickerson Bankston on April 16, 1922, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was married to the late Willie Sherrer. They had no children. Hazel was a homemaker, who also took care of her ailing parents. She then went on to work as a housekeeper and was a very loyal and dedicated employee for Dr. Brantley Burns and family until her retirement. Hazel enjoyed traveling, shopping, and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Hazel was a devoted lifetime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Senior Usher Board for more than 50 years. She loved to cook, and was known for her "Cherry Pies" at the church homecoming and anniversary dinners. As a dedicated member of the Usher Board, she enjoyed hosting fellow church members at her home, where they held afternoon teas, conducted board meetings, and fundraisers for the church. Hazel also served as the church Treasurer in her late years.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband and all of her siblings. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Janie Lee Bankston, her niece, Charlotte (Horace) Jordan the caregiver in her later years and a host of other nieces and nephews.
