Obituary For Ms. Hope Morris

In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Ms. Hope Morris. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 17, 2020 11:00 am at New Covenant Christian Ministries--West Campus 1760 Phillips Road Lithonia GA 30058. Pastor Billy R. Johnson, officiating. Hope Antoinette Morris was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 8, 1942, the first child of Henrietta Wong and Larkland Sutherland. Peacefully at home, she joined our Lord on the morning of October 4, 2020 after a long-fought battle with illness.

Hope had a great love for learning and scholarship from very early in her childhood. She loved the praise and recognition that came with the awards for her academic excellence.

Hope would ultimately graduate from Wolmer’s High School for Girls, and eventually earn certificates and degrees from the American Institute for Banking, Pace University, and Lehman College.

After getting married, having a son and starting a career at Jamaica Public Service, Hope migrated to the United States in 1967 to pursue better educational and occupational opportunities.

Given her strength with numbers and accounting, Hope was quickly hired in the finance department at Consolidated Edison in New York City. She would eventually leave Con Ed and start a twenty-year career with JP Morgan where she held various positions in finance and administration.

After JP Morgan, she moved to Family Support Systems to become the Executive Assistant to the CEO.

Following a twenty-year career with Family Support Systems, Hope finished her professional career with the Bronx Community Health Network before retiring and relocating to Georgia in 2013. Hope was a member and long serving treasurer of Wake Eden Baptist Chapel in the Bronx, NY where she also volunteered and led the Prison Ministry. On Sunday, October 6, 2013, she joined New Covenant Christian Ministries in Lithonia, GA where she remained a faithful and supportive member until her passing Hope’s love of learning made her knowledgeable on many subjects and therefore a reference point and resource for many people.

Her passions were her Christian faith, traveling, cooking, baking, and helping others. As a lover of cooking and baking, Hope excelled in making traditional Jamaican, Chinese, Haitian and American dishes.

Her specialty was Jamaican Black Cake and Easter Bun. At Christmas, the cakes were so popular she was shipping orders to Texas, Florida, Washington DC and Europe.

Hope is survived by her two sons, Stephen and Dexter; siblings, Joy Gordon and Norma Hay; daughters-in-law, Djana Morris and Wajeedah Traylor; grandchildren, Sydney, Noah, Dezaray, and Imani; many nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends and loved ones who mourn her passing.

On October 4, 2020, God called Hope home to be with her parents, siblings, and friends.

We are sure she is with them and the angels, telling jokes and exchanging recipes, while singing and praising the Lord. We celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
