Obituary For Retha Bell Terrell

Mrs. Retha Bell Terrell, one of two children, was born May 20, 1917 to the late Mrs. Effie Shumaker in Lithonia, Georgia.

She received her earliest education at Flat Rock School in Dekalb County and was nurtured by the Flat Rock United Methodist Church.

Retha spent her working life as a domstic worker and traveled extensively as a part of her work. She enjoyed baseball and was as avid Braves fan.

While a member of Central United Methodist Church, she participated in the Adult Bible Class, the supportive community work area of United Methodist Women , and the AARP. Her community involved included the Westhaven Garden Club and the Cascade Neighborhood Organization.

She leaves to cherish her memory two step-daughters, Mrs. Heddy (John) Parkes of Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs. Mary (Willie) Evans of Detroit, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Ms. D'Borah Sharif of Lithonia, Georgia; aunt, Mrs. Mary Shumaker; neices, nephews, cousins; a dear friend, Mrs. Rosa Tolbert; other relatives and friends.
