Obituary For Richard Kendrick Allen

Richard Kendrick Allen entered the world on a blustery cold day in Detroit, Michigan on February 20, 1921. The only son of Mae Owens, Richard was the middle child with two sisters, Yvonne and Muriel who preceded him in death. At a very early age Richard had the responsibility of being the man of the house. He enjoyed doing things for his mother, grandmother, and sisters. Richard loved school and kept busy with his schooling and a singing group that he founded, which still exists today. Richard also liked photography and had spoken of becoming a photographer.

After graduating from high school, Richard entered the Armed Forces. After sustaining an injury, he received an Honorable Discharge and returned to Detroit. Richard was no stranger to hard work. Upon his return from the military he began working as a construction worker and then as a Porter with the Rail Road.

In 1946, he met Dorothy Earline Adair and after a five month engagement they married and moved to Los Angeles, California. He and Dorothy had three daughters, Michelle, Vivienne, and Mary Kathryn whom preceded him in death. After 42 years of marriage, Dorothy passed away.

He became involved in Real Estate and got his broker’s license the following year. He was also involved in many organizations and activities. Some of them were with the Democratic Party, the Civil Rights Movement and the Los Angeles Mission. His work did not end there, but he worked with men from the Mission, gave them a place to live, a job, food, and took them to church every Sunday.

In 1990, Richard met and married LuBerta “Bert” Primes and moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia. He continued his work as a Real Estate broker and contractor. They joined Greenforest Community Baptist Church and did the Bread Ministry for several years. Richard enjoyed mentoring the young men and giving them guidance and taught them about Jesus Christ. Bert passed away in 2000, and Richard, although missing his soul mate, continued to attend Greenforest and was a member of several Fulfillment Hour Classes and groups, such as: the Keenagers and Illuminators, A Great Student of the Bible, and he loved praising the Lord. Richard was a devout Christian and took his teachings with him in every walk of life. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know of His greatness.

Richard celebrated his 89th birthday on February 20, with his daughter Michelle and her fiancée Leslie and was very happy about making it to 89. Richard was called to join the Lord on Monday, March 1st after telling Leslie and Michelle how much he loved them.

Richard leaves behind a sister: Yvonne Barber of Detroit, Michigan; a Son: Ernie Allen of Georgia; two Daughters: Michelle D. Allen (Leslie Aarons) of Georgia; and Vivienne Y. Allen of Washington State; Nieces: Janice C. Rowe – Lockhart of California, Rev. Dr. Nansi I. Rowe of Michigan; Nephews: Robert A. Rowe (Brenda) of Georgia, Richard A Rowe (Denise) of Maryland, John Barber of Michigan; grant nieces: Angelique Y. Robinson, Lisa M. Robinson – Martin (Kevin), Nataki Robinson – Vickers (Daniel), Leslie A. A. Rowe of Michigan; grant nephews: Robert A. Rowe of Georgia, Richard D. Rowe and Malcolm T. Rowe, both of Maryland, and Robert A. A. Rowe of Michigan; great grant Niece: Lavender M. Calhoun of Michigan; great grant nephews: Jordan K.
