Deacon Rozell Johnson was born November 27, 1928 to the parentage of Theodore Johnson and Blossie Murray Johnson. He was blessed with two brothers. One preceded him in death.
On November 4, 1950, Veola Dukes became the lovely bride of Rozell. This union produced fifty-seven years of wonderful memories.
Rozell joined Benevolence Baptist Church in 1939 under The Reverend J.F. Carter. He served as a deacon and sang in the senior choir. With a deep bass voice, he proudly sang in the Ever Ready Male Chorus. He was the last member of the original Ever Ready Male Chorus.
Rozell was educated in the public schools of Randolph County. In 1951, he became a member of the United States Army. He received a certificate for Organizational Automotives Maintenance and specialized training for "Tank M-46". He was a Korea Veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart. On the 13th day of November 1956, Corporal Rozell Johnson was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.
Rozell leaves to cherish his moemory his wife of fifty-seven years Veola D. Johnson; one brother, Willie C. Johnson; five sisters-in-law, Doris Johnson, Yvonne Johnson, Lillian Dukes, Vester D. Johnson, and Pauline Ward; three brothers-in-law, John Baldwin, Lucious Dukes, and Johnny B. Daniel; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and a host of friends.
