In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Miss Sha-Derika Monay Weldon. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sha-Derika Monay Weldon, who left us on August 24, 2024. Born on May 5th, 2005. Monay was a bright light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Monay, as she would tell us all to call her, came into our lives through foster care, and from the moment she arrived, her presence enriched our family in ways words cannot fully express. Monay brought unparalleled joy and an inspiring strength that touched everyone around her. Her infectious smile, resilient spirit, and the love she gave will be deeply missed. Her love for artistic expression was seen through songwriting, playing the guitar, acting, and painting. She had just auditioned for the Midtown High School play the week before her transition. Monay had built a web of friendships that would help keep her grounded like Instagram group calls with Latravius Grier, and Donald Weems. She would light up with joy when it was time to get on the phone with them. She attended @Promise Center Metropolitain and Our Lady of Lourdes Teen Sunday School. She could always be seen via Facebook traveling with her bonus mom, brothers, and dog Max to museums, national landmarks, theme parks, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, colleges, and universities. Monay had begun this high school year off by volunteering for the back-to-school bash with IATSE 479 DEI Committee collecting her hours of community service. She had attended her first pep rally, and prom during the 2024 school year and was looking forward to attending the upcoming homecoming game and dance. Monay was actively attending weekly sessions of The Atlanta Thrive Parenting Fellowship where she would learn about how to advocate for her educational services within her school. Her favorite teachers she would speak about were Mr. Hunt, Mrs. Ellis, Mr. Wells, and Nurse Scurry. Monay loved school and looked forward to one day working with children with disabilities. She never met a stranger and would go out of her way to accommodate others. Monay is survived by bonus mom Sechita "Shay" McNair, biological mom Shani Allen, biological dad Kendall Nesbit, Aunt Paulette Nesbit, sisters Nyasia Weldon, and Tegan Mclaughin, brothers Farrell Horton, Keyon Nesbit, Donterri Nesbit, Jevavia Nesbit, Zeric Nesbit, Jayden Nesbit, niece Brooklyn Mack bonus brothers Elias Washington, Derrick McNair-White, Malachi McNair-Nesbitt, who cherished every moment spent with her. We are profoundly grateful for the time we had and the lessons Monay taught us about love, perseverance, and the true meaning of family. She was a true epilepsy warrior.
