Obituary For Susie Mae Odom

Mother Susie Mae Dishman Odom was born May 10, 1925 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late John and Katherine Dishman. On Thursday, July 17, 2008 she departed this life to go home to be with the Lord.

She received her education in the Lexington Public School System. As a young adult she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and began her career as a chef. She was well-known for her homemade rolls; they were always an enjoyable treat for family and friends. In 1975 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jame Odom and they were blessed with 4 years of marriage until his death in 1979. In 1987 Mother retired from Anna Louise Inn after 26 years of dedicated service. 1987 also marked the year that she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.

Here in Atlanta, Mother joined Victory Church under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Kenneth L. Samuel, where she served faithfully as a member of the Mother's Ministry; everyone enjoyed "sweet potato pies" she baked for the ministry's bake sale. She was a caring person who reached out to bring others into her circle of love.

Mother had many hobbies: fishing, traveling, bingo, working crossword puzzles, playing the slot machines in Las Vegas, playing gin rummy, and she loved music and dancing. She served as an assistant manager of Dekalb County Board of Elections at the Narvie J. Harris Precinct.

To cherish fond memories, she leaves daughters Johnnie Mae (Jesse) Crews of Ellenwood, Georgia and Catherine (Curtis) Gibson of Cincinnati Ohio; 1 sister, Lucille D. Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Yvonne Cameron of Cincinnati, Yvette (Leonard) Duncan of Covington, Kentucky; Curtis (Meichelle) Gibson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Jessalyn Crews, Kimberly Crews and Jetson Crews of Ellenwood, Georgia; 7 great-grand children, Dameicha Gibson, Parrish Stewart (PJ), Damario Cameron, Courtney Stewart, Keanda Duncan of Covington, Kentucky; Cheyenne and Chani Gibson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 1 great great-grandchild, Michael Daniels, II of Cincinnati, Ohio; 1 niece, Margie Brown, 1 great niece, Kandi (Leroy) Staples, 1 great nephew, Tony Brown; 1 great great niece, Marissa Staples, 4 great great nephwes, Tony, Jay, Jamal Brown, and Codie Staples of Cincinnati, Ohio; a devoted sister/friend, Vera Wicker of Lithonia, Georgia, and a host of other relatives and friends.
