Obituary For Bernice Monroe

Bernice Monroe, 93, of Moral Hill Drive, Axton, VA departed from this life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at her residence. She was born March 1, 1933, in Henry County, Virginia the daughter of the late Jerome Jones and Daisy Law Jones.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva Clark, Garnett Hairston, Vergie Hairston and Maggie Grant.

Bernice received her formal education through the Henry County Public School System. She attended Reach Out Apostolic Tabernacle, Axton, VA.

Bernice leaves to mourn four nieces, Bernice Millner of Henry County, VA, Carolyn Giles of Atlanta, GA, Faye Gallaway and Gaynell Dozier both of Martinsville, VA; two nephews, Calvin (Typewriter) Hairston and William H. Hairston both of Martinsville, VA; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville with Bishop Lorenzo Hall, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Grant Family Cemetery, Axton, VA.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends during this time. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
