Mrs. Brenda Waller Dickerson, age 76, of 916 Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville, Virginia, departed this life on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Mulberry Creek Nursing Facility.
She was born on August 4, 1949, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Henry Clay Waller and Dorothy E. Waller. Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lynwood Dickerson, Sr., and a special devoted friend, James Tyrone Penn.
Brenda was a faithful member of Morning Star Holy Church, where she served diligently on the kitchen committee, choir, and as an usher. Her faith and dedication to her church family were evident through her years of service and devotion.
She received her education in the Henry County school system and graduated from George Washington Carver High School. Brenda continued her education at Patrick Henry Community College and became a CNA/caregiver. She worked as a caregiver and was co-owner of Southern Comfort. She was known for her caring spirit, kindness, and willingness to help others.
Brenda loved spending time with her family, and she treasured every opportunity to gather with loved ones and create lasting memories.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, James L. “Lenny” Dickerson, Jr. and his wife Rhonda and Rodrikus D. Dickerson both of Martinsville, VA; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Gloria Wade of Martinsville, Virginia; three brothers, Howard L. Waller and his wife, Ruby and Price D. Waller both of Martinsville, VA and Sammy Mullins of Roanoke, Virginia; two aunts, Annie Bell Millner and Dora Eggleston both of Martinsville, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Waller and Troy Barksdale.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Morning Star Holy Church, 2839 Stoney Mountain Rd., Martinsville with Bishop James F. Millner, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Morning Star Memorial Gardens.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, James and Rhonda Dickerson, 34 Robin Rd., Martinsville beginning on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, between the hours of 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. daily.
