Calvin Coolidge Martin, 84, of Martin Dr., Axton, VA, departed this life on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at his residence. He was born on February 20, 1935 in Henry County, VA, to the late Nannie Kate Martin and the late Jesse James Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Deon "DJ" Jawan Peatross, two sisters, Shirley Martin and Annie Adams, and four brothers, Howard Martin, Leroy Martin, Jesse James Martin, Jr., and Melvin Martin.
Calvin was a lifelong member of Christ Temple Holy Church. He graduated from Pittsylvania County Schools and served in the United States Air Force. Calvin was the owner of CC Martin Truck Salvage for 55 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Eva V. Martin of the home; five daughters, Veronica Peatross of Eden, NC; Laurette Martin of Martinsville, VA; Tammy Vilmar of Conyers, GA; Jessica Carter of Axton, VA; and Kirby Wilson of Greensboro, NC; three sons, Calvin Douglas of San Francisco, CA; Calvin S. Martin and Troy Martin both of Axton, VA; 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Willie Mae Eggleston, Virginia Gravely, and Helen Giles all of Martinsville, VA; Naomi Tucker and Jane Stone both of Axton, VA; Dorothy Strange of Cascade, VA; and three brothers, Samuel Martin, Bernard Martin and Marvin Martin all of Axton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Noon at Christ Temple Holy Church with Elder Leonard Thompson, eulogist. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church and all other times at the home, 2521 Martin Drive, Axton, VA. Burial will follow in the Martin Family Cemetery, Axton, VA.
