Obituary For Cassie Ann Williams

Celebration of Life for Mother Cassie Ann Williams March 9, 1933 – November 4, 2021

OBITUARY

Cassie Ann Williams was born in Martinsville, Virginia on March 9, 1933 to John Thomas and Vergie Stockton Hodge. She gained her heavenly wings on November 4, 2021 as she peacefully transitioned into the waiting arms of her heavenly father, following a brief illness.

Cassie was the 9th born of 10 children and the baby girl that everyone adoringly spoiled. She was educated in the Henry County Public School System in Martinsville, Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Jerusalem Christian Church where she loved Sunday School and learning about the many Bible stories taught. She always expressed a desire to travel and see other parts of the world.

Desiring better job opportunities, Cassie left Martinsville, Virginia to live in Cleveland, Ohio where her older brother Joe lived. She was successfully employed as a seamstress at Cleveland University Hospital, where she worked for over 30 years until retirement. Shortly after arriving in Cleveland, she met and married Richard Horn Sr. In addition to her two daughters, Janet and Phyllis, she gave birth to her youngest child, Richard Jr. also known as “Rickey”. Many years after Richard’s death, God blessed Cassie to find happiness and love again with Nathaniel Williams who treated her like the queen she was.

Cassie joined the Cleveland Church of Christ in March 1970 under the leadership of Bishop James Haughton Sr. and presently his son, Bishop Lincoln Haughton. For over 51 years, she faithfully served God with her tithes and her attendance. She was a Church Board Mother, a member of the church gospel choir, Missionary Choir. Cassie served as a missionary on every 3rd Sunday, was part of the bereavement committee, and the Sunday School. She loved God, trusted God and believed God’s word that He would never leave her nor forsake her.

Cassie’s motto in life was “If I can help someone along the way, then my living won’t be in vain”. She loved people in whatever way she could. She delivered food to people, transported them to doctor’s appointments and even opened her home to those in need. Her generosity, kindness to others, and loving nature made you realize she was one of God’s chosen vessels.

Cassie loved to cook for her family. She loved to listen to her gospel music and watch the Inspirational Gospel Network. She loved to read God’s word and study to show herself approved of God.

In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Williams; her son-in-love, Charles F. Mullins; four sisters: Mamie H. Jamison, Maggie Hairston, Rosie P. Hodge, and Pearl E. Hodge; four brothers: Jessie B. Hodge, Joe L. Hodge, John A. Hodge, and Rufus E. Hodge.

Cassie leaves to cherish her memory to her three children: Janet Mullins of White Plains, MD; Phyllis Scales of Martinsville, VA and Richard Horn Jr. of Cincinnati, OH; two stepchildren, Glynis (Larry) Rodgers of Pennington, AL, and Anthony (Beverly) Hutson of Brooklyn, NY; One sister, Virginia H. Gravely of Martinsville, VA; Twelve grandchildren, Chandra D. Hodge, Christopher D. Mullins, Corey (Kia) Mullins, Christina (Jay) France, Blair Everette, Rikita Everette, Crystal (Paul) Bolin, Capria (Samuel) McClearn, Sean (Angela) Goodwin, Katrina Goodwin, Kirbie Duff, and Tiffany Rodgers; Twenty Six great grandchildren, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Other special family and friends, include, Geneva Spencer of Cleveland, OH, Delores Collins of Cleveland, OH and her Cleveland Church of Christ family.

Cassie is now at rest and reunited with her beloved husband Nathaniel.
