Charlie Martin, age 87, of Surry Court, Martinsville, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at his residence.
Born in Martinsville on March 10, 1939, he was the beloved son of the late Sam Buddy Martin and Rosa Hairston Martin. A lifelong resident of the community, Charlie dedicated his life to his faith, family, and hard work.
Charlie attended Albert Harris High School, and he was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of East Martinsville, where he faithfully served his church community as both a trustee and an usher for many years. Charlie was also well-known for his industrious spirit, enjoying a long and dedicated career with the Hooker Furniture Company, from which he eventually retired.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his three dear sisters, Bernice McClane, Lucy Belle Casey and Virginia Martin Hairston, and son-in-law, Anthony Hairston.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and quiet dedication to his loving wife, Rosa Lee Hairston Martin of the home; three daughters, Cassandra Dandridge and her husband, Mark, Cynthia W. Hairston, and Ramona C. Hairston and her husband Jonathan, all of Martinsville, VA; nephew/son, Michael Hairston and his wife, Joan of Laurel, MD; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at First Baptist Church E. Martinsville, 1043 E. Church St., Martinsville with Dr. Charles Whitfield, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence, 113 Surry Ct., Martinsville between the hours of 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. daily.
