On Monday, October 24, 2022, Deacon Clarence “Cleve” Holland, 70 of Mulberry Rd., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at his residence. Born November 25, 1951, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Alex Holland, and the late Dorothy Louise Scales Holland.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by one daughter, Desiree D. White, and four brothers, Charlie, Frank, George and Harry Holland. Also, Peter D. and Ida B. Niblett whom he looked to as parents.
“Cleve” as he was affectionately called, was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church where he served as a Deacon. For many years, “Cleve” lived in Buffalo, NY, after returning to Martinsville, he became a business owner of Phase 1 Car Wash.
Those left to cherish his memory includes: his wife, Bernadine Smith Holland of the home; one son, Lonnie White of Alaska; eight grandchildren, Omar Jamison, Arkeel Nunn, Kim Slaughter, Lonniesha White, Rondorian Clark, Delonnie White, Michael White, and Erin Jackson; nine great-grandson, Otaisha Jamison, Franchesca Lonzo, Jakilyah Slaughter, Omar Jamison, Orion Jamison, Akira Munn, James Slaughter, Jayquan Morrison, and Ava Munn; four sisters, Judy Lofton of Buffalo, NY, Annie Holland Mahan, Alberta Jones, and Marie Hairston all of Martinsville, VA; six brothers, Pete Holland, Dennis Holland, and Billy Holland all of Martinsville, VA, Douglas Holland of Fayetteville, NC, Joseph Holland of Rocky Mount, VA, and Alvin Eccles of Charlotte, NC; Jennifer Green whom he looked to as a sister; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Apostle Church, 7 Peters St., Martinsville, VA, with Bishop J. C. Richardson, Jr., Eulogist. Burial will follow at Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 5975 Dyer Store Rd., Martinsville, VA. Viewing will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 711 Mulberry Rd., Martinsville. The family ask that when visiting the home, to observe all CDC guidelines.
