Obituary For Cornelia J. Thomas
Cornelia J. Thomas, 49, of Stoneyridge Road, Bassett, VA departed from this life on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She was born on November 18, 1974, in Roanoke, VA to her Mother, Ellen M. Penn and her late Stepfather, Robert Lee Penn.
In addition to her stepfather, Robert Lee Penn she was preceded in death by four aunts, Alroy M. Smith, Judy W. Manns, Mary M. Poole, and Marion M. Benson; and four uncles, Raymond A. Manns, Thomas, E. Manns, George C. Manns, and Gerald C. Manns.
Cornelia attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and High Ridge Baptist Church. She was a graduate of John D. Bassett High School class of 1992, where she was a cheerleader and earned a cosmetologist license and became self-employed.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include two sons, Jordan Hughes and Myles Hughes of the home; her mother, Ellen M. Penn of Bassett, VA; one brother, Sean A. Thomas of Bassett, VA; one aunt, Elizabeth B. Manns of Rocky Mount, VA; one uncle, Leroy J. Manns of Rocky Mount, VA; one nephew, Christopher M. Gibson of Jacksonville, FL; the father of her children, Thomas Hughes of Collinsville, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Keshawn Niblett, presiding. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA. A public Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at Hairston Funeral Home.
