On Monday, October 7, 2024, Cornell Vester Jones, Sr., 78, of Cardinal LN., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life at the Salem VA Medical Center, Salem, VA. He was born on March 12, 1946, in Martinsville, VA to the late Odell Vester “Shadrack” Jones and Hattie Ruth Silver Jones.
In addition to his parents, Cornell was preceded in death by one son, Lamont Carter, and two brothers, Bernard Jones and Clifton Jones.
Cornell was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, he loved Nascar racing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
Cornell was a graduate of Albert Harris High School class of 1964, and he retired from Hanes Brand. He enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1964 until his discharge in 1967. He was a member of the Jaycee's organization.
Cornell leaves to cherish his memory his wife Theresa Woody Jones of the home; four sons, Cornell “Squirrel” Jones, Jr., Timothy Vernon (Benita), Anthony Tony Carter (Beverly), and Dominique Jones (Daniele) all of Martinsville, VA; one daughter, Regina R. Jones of Collinsville, VA; nine grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; five sisters, Gail M. Jones, Rona J. Moore (Joe) both of Martinsville, VA, Pamela Griffin (Vinton) of Chesapeake, VA, Denise Jones of Kernersville, NC and Twana Jones of Greensboro, NC; five brothers, Elder Anthony O. Jones (DeeDee) of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Jones of Martinsville, VA, Marcus Jones and Angelo Jones (Tanisha) both of Collinsville, VA, Kyle Jones of San Diego, CA, Jimmy Vaughn of Charlotte, NC, and Minister Harry Manns of Martinsville, VA; one aunt, Adrene Jones Cox; special friend, Pastor Benjamin Redd, Jr.; grand fur baby, Otis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville with Bishop designate, Alan Preston, Presiding, and Pastor Bengamin Redd, Jr., Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA with Military Honors.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence, 1419 Cardinal LN., Martinsville, VA.
