Obituary For Deacon Agatha J. Stockton

On Monday, March 30, 2026, God in His infinite wisdom called home Deacon Agatha Jackson Stockton. She passed peacefully and quietly at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia surrounded by her family.

Agatha Jackson Stockton was born to the late John A. Jackson and Mary Agnes Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 64 years, Cornell C. Stockton, and her beloved siblings, J.W. Jackson, James Jackson, Theodore Jackson, Constance Anderson, and Katie Jernigan Smith.

Agatha was a faithful and dedicated member of Jerusalem Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she served with love, humility, and unwavering commitment in many ministries throughout the years. Her service included the Adult Choir, the Usher Board, the Deacon Ministry, the Church Nurse Ministry, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She loved her church family deeply and lived a life rooted in faith, service, and compassion.

Agatha believed strongly in education and personal growth. She attended George Washington Carver High School in Salem, Virginia, graduating in 1956. Afterwards she continued her studies at Lucy Addison High School and Burrell Memorial Hospital of Practical Nursing, where she earned her license as a L.P.N. She went on to serve others through her nursing career and retired from Martinsville Memorial Hospital after 32 years of dedicated and compassionate service. Her work reflected her caring spirit and her lifelong desire to help others.

Agatha was a woman of grace, strength, and beauty. She loved her family deeply and was the heart of her home. She had a gift for making people feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. Her life was filled with faith, family, fellowship, and service. Her infectious laugh and beautiful smile made her a social butterfly. Her adventurous spirit led her to many places, often accompanied by her sister, Katie Jane. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, wisdom, and love to those around her that will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her. Her mere presence will be missed beyond measure.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her loving children, Katrina Stockton, Jacquelyn Stockton of Roanoke, Virginia, and Christopher Stockton of the home. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, DaNitra, Allyssha, Taurean, Kierra, Jarren, and Christopher Le Edward, along with nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also remembered fondly by her special friends, Ida Draper, Linda Brim, and Evelyn Brooks.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to her most recent caregivers, Shearicka Dandridge of Martinsville, Virginia, and Nada and Georgette of Roanoke, Virginia, for their compassionate care and support.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Jerusalem Christian Church DOC), 35 Meadow Garden Ln., Martinsville with Reverend William Lee, Eulogist, Pastor Gregory Holt, Officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, 49 Thirlane Rd. NW, Roanoke, VA.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will be present during this time. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
