On Monday, April 8, 2024, Deacon Carver Delano Lewis, of Stuart Ridge Road, Martinsville, VA, transitioned from this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born June 13,1942, in Siler City, NC to the late Henry Lewis and Marie Saunders Lewis. In addition to his Carver was preceded in death by his brother Henry Lewis.
While living in Winston Salem, he graduated from Akins High School in 1960. Carver became a member of Union Baptist Church and was a member of the Youth Choir. Years later attended A&T University. He served his country faithfully and proudly while in the United States Marines Corps. While in Martinsville, Carver became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Treasurer and a member of several choirs. He later moved his membership to High Ridge Missionary Baptist Church; he served as chairman of the deacon board and a member of the men’s choir.
Carver retired from Tultex Corporation and Walgreens. He later became a member of the American Legion Homer Dillard Post #78. Carver was also a member of the Gibraltor Lodge #1.
Carver is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie R. Lewis, of the home, daughter, Cassandra M. Lee of Winder, GA; one son, Patrick D. Lewis (Jennifer) of Des Moines, IA; grandson, Jordan Robert-Lewis (Yvonne), great granddaughter, Lelani Roberts-Lewis of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Jaylnn Roberts-Lewis of Ames, IA; grand dog, Bailey of Winder, GA; nephews: Dr. Jonathan Lewis (Aisha), Kenneth Lewis, Esq (Holly); nieces: Karen Lewis Russell (Gabriel) and Robin Lewis; and Aunt Thelma Hailstock 99 years young; cousins LuVeria (Andrew) Curry, Kay Hughes, Ray Sanders, Sarah Sanders and a host of other family, neighbors and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 12:00 p.m. at High Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 1455 Carver Road, Martinsville, VA with Pastor Keishawn Niblett, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Drive, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette Street, Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at 291 Stuart Ridge Road, Martinsville, Va.
