On Saturday, August 12, 2023, Deacon Charles Gravely, 90, of Skyland Dr., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at his residence. He was born in Martinsville, VA on September 9, 1932, the son of the late Howard Gravely, and the late Essie Mae Eggleston Gravely.
Deacon Gravely was a faithful member of Christβs Temple Holy Church, Axton, VA where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board until his health began to fail him. He was a co-founder of Dyer Store Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for several years. Deacon Gravely was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Homer Dillard Post 78. He retired from Stone Container after many years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Virginia Martin Gravely of the home; his children; Curtis Gravely (Dreanetta) and Robin Gravely both of Martinsville, VA, Mark Gravely (Sandra) of Jamestown, NC, and Melissa Gravely of Danville, VA; extended family, Jeanette Jackson of Martinsville, VA, and Eric Richardson of Upper Marlboro, MD; two grandsons, Anthony Gravely, and Christian Gravely both of Jamestown, NC; special son, Lyndon Eggleston-Clark of Danville, VA; one sister, Cynthia Gravely of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Elder Leonard Thompson, Eulogist. The burial will follow at the Eggleston Family Cemetery, Kindsman Dr., Martinsville. A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence, 45 Skyland Dr., Martinsville.

Charles was my buddy. Every single time I saw him I would say "Charles, who do you love the most, me or Robin"? He would always smile but never answered me! I will miss him terribly and so glad I asked that question at our last reunion in July! Rest easy dear cousin!β€οΈπ₯°π
