On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Deacon Ernest Hodge 90, of Timberwood Dr., Martinsville transitioned peacefully from this earthly life at Martinsville Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Martinsville, VA on October 6, 1934, to the late William Hodge and Annie Hairston Hodge.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by three brothers, George Hodge, Rufus Hodge and Micheal Hodge, two sisters, Estella Shockley and Natalie Hodge and one granddaughter, Shaneka Broadnax.
Ernest was a member of United House of Prayer where he served as a Deacon. He was a retired Plasterer.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his loving wife of sixty-four years, Cora Carson Hodge of the home; four daughters, Evelyn Carson of Martinsville, VA, Michele Hodge Smith of Greensboro, NC, Sharon Hodge of Martinsville, VA and Melissa Robin Hodge of Alexandria, VA; one son, Earnest "Punkin" Hodge of Martinsville, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Brown of Kernersville, NC, Marina Hodge of Martinsville, VA and Annie C. Foushee of Hollis, NY; two brothers, Johnny Hodge (Joanne) of Greensboro, NC and Adam Hodge (Adante) of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the United House of Prayer for All People, 602 Fayette St., Martinsville with Elder C. Herrion, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 104 Timberwood Dr., Martinsville.
