On Sunday, December 25, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to call Dora Wimbush Bowman from labor to reward. Born in Virginia on March 4, 1918, she was the daughter of Abe Wimbush, and Adeline Wimbush who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Peter H. Bowman; and her siblings, John Wimbush, Lawyer Wimbush, Lester Wimbush, Warren Wimbush, Addie Pritchett, Rosa Bell Via, Lillie Dixon, Lizza Wimbush, and Ethel Bowman.
Dora was a member of Fayette Street Christian Church where she served faithfully in the Choir and the Usher Board.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Cynthia Carter of the home; two grandchildren, Jamel (Tabitha) Carter, and Eric Carter both of Martinsville, VA; five great-grandchildren, Teagan Beam, Christian Carter, Kaia Carter, Keanu Carter, and Zackary Prichard all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 11:30 until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Greater International Pentecostal Assembly Building, 980 Carver Rd., Martinsville with Pastor Junior Wimbush, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Iron Belt Christian Church Cemetery, 336 Iron Belt Ln., Stuart, VA. Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 216 Massey St., Martinsville. The family ask that you would observe all COVID 19 guidelines when visiting the home.
