Obituary For Doris Lee Hairston

Doris Lee Hairston, of Henrico, Virginia, passed away and went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 11, 2026.

Born on March 27, 1936, in Martinsville, Henry County, Virginia, to the late Ned Daniel Hairston and Nannie Beatrice Spencer Hairston, Doris was the youngest of fourteen children.

She married William Henry "Boots" Hairston in 1954 and began their family, later moving to Buffalo, New York in 1956. Together they raised two children, Vanessa and Anson.

After graduating from Carver High School in Fieldale, Virginia, Doris pursued further education at Albany Business College in Albany, New York. She held various administrative positions before establishing a long career as a Senior Assistant Administrator at Westinghouse Electric Corp., (now Northrop Grumman), from which she retired in 1998.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved son, Anson William Hairston; former husband, William Henry Hairston and all thirteen of her brothers and sisters, including, Daniel (a WWII Veteran), Nathaniel, Gayle Sr., Albert, David Sr., Beatrice Pagan, Lillie Mae, and Alice Lorine King.

Surviving are her daughter, Vanessa Coletta Hairston; four grandchildren, Carlos V. Carbonell, Vanessa D. Carey, Maxwell A. Hairston and Noah A. Hairston; five great grandchildren, Carlos Jr., Rolando, Leo, Treyvon and Anaiah; a beloved community of nieces, nephews, cousins, daughter-in-law, Jenelle Butler Hairston and many friends.

Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2026. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, July 20 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 8775 Mt. Olive Avenue, Glen Allen. Rev. Darryl G. Thompson, Pastor/Eulogist. Interment will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Meadow Christian Church (DOC) Cemetery,1140 Meadowood Trail, Martinsville, VA.
