Obituary For Evelyn Carter Mebane
Evelyn Carter Mebane, 92, of Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at her residence. She was born in Virginia on June 24, 1929, the daughter of the late John Carter, and the late Nannie Sue Carter Belcher.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, William Tony Mebane, Jr; one son, Richard D. Mebane; two sisters, Janelle Carter, and Dian Carter; and two brothers, Leon Carter, and Raymond Carter.
Evelyn was a member of the Saint Paul High Street Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and was a member of the Senior Choir. She retired from E.I. Dupont after 35 years of service.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Teresa M. (George) Prince of Greensboro, NC, Joy Mebane of Bassett, VA, and Patricia R. Mebane of Martinsville, VA; three sons, William T. (Ella) Mebane III of Raleigh, NC, Lloyd D. (Linda) Mebane of Portsmouth, VA, and Michael R. Mebane of Martinsville, VA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Alfonza (Melinda) Carter of Raleigh, NC; four sisters, Jerolene Carter of Raleigh, NC, Shirlene Carter of New York, NY, Loretta Carter of Danville, VA, and Mary Rumley of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Brown, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. All other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 802 D St., Martinsville, VA. The family ask that you observe all COVID guidelines when visiting the home.
