On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, Evelyn L. Hunter, 77, of E. Church St., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Stanleytown Health & Rehab Center, Stanleytown, VA. She was born in Henry County, VA on November 2, 1946, to the late Charlie Martin and Estella Morrison Martin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Martin and Gerald Martin; and three sisters Oretha Martin Leona Martin, and Ann Adams.
Evelyn attended Noah's Ark Full Gospel Baptist Church, Reidsville, NC. She retired from Taylor Hospital, Chester, PA. After returning to Martinsville, Evelyn went to work for and later retired from the Martinsville City School in the dietary Department.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory one son, Michael Hunter (Jean) of Martinsville, VA; two grandchildren, Latifa Hunter of DE, and Jamar Hunter of Chester, PA; two step-grandchildren, LaTasha Brown of Eden, NC, and Keirra Hairston of Martinsville, VA; goddaughters, Sonja Trader of Chester, PA and Kendall Myers of Collinsville, VA; one brother, Earl Thomas Martin of Richmond, VA; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville with Overseer B. Stephon Brown, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Jean Hunter, 1807 E. Church St, #402, Martinsville, VA.
