Obituary For George "Butch" Washington Carter, III

Mr. George “Butch” Washington Carter, III, 79, of Oretha Street, Axton, Virginia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Born on October 22, 1946, Mr. Carter was the beloved son of the late George Washington Carter, Jr. and Martha Lee Bailey Mayo.

A faithful servant of the Lord, Mr. Carter was a devoted member of Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, where he faithfully served on the Usher Board. His welcoming spirit, dependable service, and unwavering commitment to his church family reflected the depth of his faith.

George dedicated many years of service as a Custodian with Sovah Health Martinsville before retiring. He took pride in his work and earned the respect of those who knew him through his work ethic.

Though he has departed this earthly life, the legacy of George Washington Carter, III will continue through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the example of faith he left behind.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Bailey, and one brother, Tony Bailey.

Above all else, George cherished his family. He leaves to treasure his memory his loving sons, Christopher Carter (Kimberly) of Martinsville, Virginia, and George Anthony Carter of Riverview, Florida; one daughter, Christie (Brandon,Sr.) Isaiah of Charlottsville, Virginia. He was a proud grandfather to Trekeystria Via of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Breonia Via of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Marque Carter, Dominique Carter, Torri Carter, and Christopher Carter, Jr., all of Martinsville, Virginia, Kendra Carter of South Korea, Madisyn and Brandon Isaiah, Jr. (Ace) all of Charlottsville, Virginia. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Cleve Bailey of Vineland, NJ; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Special thanks to his caretakers, Jenny Jamison and Younique Martin.

A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, 929 Bethel Lane, Martinsville, VA with Minister Renado Hairston, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA.

The family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
