George Easley was the youngest son of 12 children of the late Abraham and Olda Easley born on May 21, 1951. He transitioned to his heavenly home on January 7, 2020 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. He was educated in Pittsylvania County and graduated from Southside High School in Danville, VA in 1969.
George relocated to Hackensack, NJ in 1970. He worked a number of different jobs during his time in New Jersey. In approximately 1972, he relocated to Bridgeport, CT. George was hired by Sikorsky Helicopters in 1979 as a machinist. He remained employed by Sikorsky until his retirement on January 31, 2014. George belonged to a number of organizations. He was a Past Master of his Masonic Lodge. He was also a Shriner and 33rd Degree Mason. Additionally, he held memberships with the local Elks Lodge, VFW, and the Tree Club. He never met a person he couldn’t get along with. George also enjoyed traveling. He spent a lot of time with friends and family in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. George loved to attend social functions with the many organizations he was affiliated with. He cherished the opportunities to spend time with his siblings and other relatives.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Olda Easley, his brothers, Claude Easley, James (Nick) Easley, Herbert Easley, Harold Easley, Earl Easley and sisters Elaine Lowman, Cecile Pittman, Clementra Watkins, Earline Nunnally, Joyce Easley, and one son.
Those left to cherish his memory include; his longtime companion Mindy Counts; two sons Edwin of Jacksonville, FL, and Tas of Winston Salem, NC; his sister Wilma Easley of Axton, VA; his brother, Roy Easley of Yorktown; two sisters-in-law Bernice Easley of Yorktown, VA and Barbara Easley of Axton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 12 noon at New Sharon Grove Baptist Church, Axton, VA, with Bishop Larry Robertson, Eulogist. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service at the church, and all other times at the home of his sister, Wilma Easley, 4099 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA. Interment will be in the New Sharon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 3595 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA.
