Gloria D. Carter “Ganny”, 81, of Crestwood Ct, Martinsville, VA departed from this life on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Sovah Health Martinsville. She was born March 18, 1941, to the late Peter Kermit Draper and Elizabeth C. Draper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Carter; one brother, Michael Draper; and two sisters, Susan Turner and Francine Scott.
Gloria graduated from Albert Harris School. She was later employed by Tultex until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Fayette Street Christian Church where she served as a Deacon, financial secretary, Elder, and DWF.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include: her husband, Melvin Carter, Sr.; two daughters, Cynthia Preston of Martinsville, VA and Kimberly (Larry) Hairston of Greensboro, NC; one son, Melvin (Angie) Carter, Jr.; one brother, Kermit A. Draper of Alabama; three grandsons, Byron (Trakita) Preston of Collinsville, VA, Brandon Carter of Martinsville, VA, and Kristopher Hairston of Greensboro, NC; two granddaughters, DeShanta Hairston of Martinsville, VA and Kendra Hairston of Charlotte, NC; five great grandchildren; and her caregiver, Brenda Hairston.
A visitation for Gloria will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. at Fayette Street Christian Church, Martinsville, VA with Pastor Calvin Curry, Presiding. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will be receiving friends at the home, 101 Crestwood Ct, Martinsville, VA all other times. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. The family asks that when visiting the home, you observe all CDC guidelines.
