Obituary For Henry W. Jones

Henry Jones, 84, known as “Roonie”, of Amherst, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Fairmont Crossing Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Amherst County, VA, he was the son of the late Lenwood “Son” Jones and Betty Randolph Jones.

He loved washing cars, mowing the lawn, and taking his morning walks. “Roonie” was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church, Amherst, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Josephine Hughes, Alberta Godette, Frances Rose, Rosetta Harris, Dorothy Harris, Georgia Jones, and Alice Riggins; and three brothers, Phil Jones, Lenwood Jones, and Percy Jones.

“Roonie” leaves to cherish his memories: five sons, Derrick Thompson of Temple, PA, Michael Jones and his wife, Hope, of Richmond, VA, Henry Jones of Amherst, VA, Dimitri Higginbotham of Lynchburg, VA and Dareryle Jones of Cleveland, OH; one daughter, Nancy Megginson and her husband, Gregg, of Concord, VA; two sisters, Corlelda Burrell of Hoboken, NJ, and Betty Sales, and her husband, Andrew, of Amherst, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 12 noon at Community Funeral Home, 909 Fifth St., Lynchburg, VA. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be held at a later date due to inclement weather.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Community Funeral Home between the hours of 5 p.m. until 7 pm. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
