On Monday, June 13, 2022, James Alfrice Kidd, 76, of Halfway Rd., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. Born January 25, 1946, in Virginia, he was the son of Alfrice Kidd and Ida Holland Kidd who preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Niblett Kidd; son, Calvin O’Neal Kidd; grandson, Antonio O’Bryant Kidd; and siblings, Randolph Kidd, Joseph Kidd, Shirley White, Ervin Kidd, Mary Via, and Bobby Kidd.
James was a member of the Mt. Olive United Holy Church, Martinsville, VA where he served as President of the Men’s Auxiliary, a Trustee, a Deacon, and an Usher. He was a supervisor for the Lester Home Group before retiring. He was also a member of the Martinsville Hunter’s Club.
Those left to cherish his memory include: one son, William Kidd; one daughter, Gloria (Elder Alan) Preston; two grandsons, Demetrius Kidd, and Alan M. Preston; two great-grandchildren, Damya Kidd, and Kamari Hairston all of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Bishop Fred (Indiana) Kidd of Danville, VA, Jesse (Lisa) Kidd, and Anthony (Patricia) Kidd both of Martinsville, VA; four sisters, Dorothy Waller, Georgia Hairston, Vickie (Carlton) Reid, and Iris Taylor all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Refuge Temple Ministries, 205 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA with Bishop Fred Kidd, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville, VA. Viewing will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria, and Elder Alan Preston, 215 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA. The family ask that when visiting the home that you would please observe all COVID guidelines.
