On Friday, October 18, 2024, James M. “Que” Carter, Sr., 84, of Indian Trail, Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Martinsville Health & Rehab. He was born in Virginia on January 8, 1940, to the late Charles Thomas Carter and Laurestiene Hairston Carter.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy B. Walker; one son, James “Jody” Carter; one grandson, Demarkus D. Brown; one sister, Mary Carter Grover; and two brother, Willie Carter and Charlie Thomas Carter, Jr.
James attended high school in Martinsville, VA and furthered his career in Cleveland, OH and Kansas City. After his retirement from General Motors, he returned back to Martinsville and devoted his time to his family and loved ones.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his wife, Samantha Carter; two daughters, Chynita A. Belcher (Edward) and Victoria F. Carter; one son, William “Bill” Carter (Maranda) all of Martinsville, VA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin Carter, Norman Carter (Mary) and Claude Carter ((Rose) all of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Laura McLeod of Cleveland, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Marshall Wells, Jr., Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Chynita and Edward Belcher, 761 Indian Tr., Martinsville.
