To My Dearest Godmother:
Thank you for inspiring me and guiding me as a powerful woman of God- WHITNEY
I am just hearing of Jamilla's passing. My sincere condolences to her family! I went to high school with this born leader. We shared Band together and I often looked up to her. I have nothing but fond memories of her. Rahsul, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. With sympathy, Diane Turner Williams
Jamilla had a significant impact on my life while working at Saint Paul's College where I matriculated for two years. She took me under her wing as a son. I affectionately called her "mutha." I would travel to RCC with Chris, Eric, Renay, and Felicia before TOZ was founded. I am thankful for how her life changed mine. Until we see each other in the sweet bye and bye. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints (Psalms 116:15).
I was so sorry to recently learn of Jamilla's passing. I got to know her well in the last years prior to my retirement in 2013, when she was working at the Western Regional Office for Community Corrections. I found her to be incredibly wise, witty, compassionate, and trustworthy, and I counted her as a close friend and confidant. I regret that we fell out of touch after I retired. My heartfelt condolences are extended to her family. May your memories sustain you in the coming weeks and months. Paula Herd Williams
Rock I sincere condolences to you and your family. I hope you and yours find comfort in your find memories.πππ

When Jamilla came to the Academy as a new counselor, I knew that she would be a very valuable asset to the Department of Corrections. She truly made a difference!
We shared our faith. She is now wrapped in the Everlasting Arms of the Heavenly Father! Well, done, good and faithful servant!
To Reverend Divens, Rahsul, and the entire Divens and Burney families: Please accept my deepest condolences to you over the transitioning of your loved one Jamilla. I'll never be able to fully express, in writing, how my meeting Jamilla in my youth and subsequently developing a friendship with her has left an indelible mark on my life. Although time, distance, and just "normal life situations" kept us out of constant contact throughout the years, I'll always cherish the memories of her, i.e., her laughter, her immense musical talent, our fun times spent at 4-H summer camp, the occasional overnight sleepover or two at her/Mrs. Burney's home, and her unfaltering genuine friendship. I'll forever be grateful to God for allowing both Jamilla's and her mother's light to shine on my life during a season when neither one of them were aware that I needed it. Divens and Burney family members: May you find complete solace in God's promise of eternal life. Rest Well Jamilla! Psalm 23, Romans 14:8 - Myra Manns Saunders (Jamilla's Sister In Christ, Forever Friend, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc./Divine Nine Friend)
I have had the pleasure of working for Ms. Burney-Divens as her Secretary at Sussex II State Prison. She cared and showed her love to me and my family. Memories of her will always live forever in my heart β€

I'm very sorrowful to hear about the transitioning of Jamilla. She was my instructor for several training classes before I retired. Always speaking and incorporating the goodness of the Lord in her training.
May GOD grant peace to the Family.
You were truly a woman of God! I will always cherish your words of encouragement for my life! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! I know you are in the presence of the Lord based on the Christ you exemplified in all walks of your life. My husband and I will keep the Burney Divens family in our prayers. We love ya!
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jamilla. We worked together at VADOC, and she was an inspirational leader. I still have the note from her to me dated 12/21/2009 where she told me "if you shoot the messenger with bad news, we should also bless them for the good news." She knew it was the words I needed at the time and I still read that message every day, as it hangs at the bottom of my monitor. May she rest in peace and her family find comfort in the cherished memories.
Glad I had the pleasure to meet Jamila while employed at Danville Probation & Parole! She was a very kind, respectful and a loving person to have as our Regional Director! I am so sorry for the loss of Jamilla. I've known, worked with, and been a friend of Jamilla for over 25 years. We spent many days and nights traveling together for work and the time we spent together I will forever cherish. She always called me her little brother and supported me and cared for me like the big sister I never had. My heart goes out to the family and her friends. She will be missed by so many because she touched so many. She always told me to never count my days but always make my days count. Jamilla, you definitely made your days count and made our days matter! I will miss you & will love you always!!!

Please accept my deepest condolences concerning the passing of your beloved Jamilla. She was a wonderful person and never met a stranger. I worked with her at Indian Creek and on occasion as our ROC for the Eastern Region. She will be sorely missed.
I am so sorry for your loss; Jamilla and I were high school classmates and she was just as smart and beautiful as she is right now! I loved her smile and her tone of voice that was so quiet and sweet! Lovely and dear person and will be missed greatly. β₯οΈβ€οΈ
I have known Jamilla all my life, literally as our mothers were good friends and worked together. She, her brother, Rashul, and several other children from other families were often together playing, eating, fighting, getting in trouble, just like siblings do. So she was like a loving, giving and caring big sister. Her presence will definitely be missed, but she certainly never be forgotten. Take up your wings now, Big Sis, and wear them with the humbleness and grace that only you can. Love you!!!
Mrs. Divens you will truly be missed! I will forever cherish the memories that we shared together. - Vontasia
I worked with Jamila for years at GRCC in Unit C. We became more than coworkers, we were friends. I thank God for the time that shared with her. She was always loving and kind. I got to speak to her a few weeks ago and if I had not known what was going on, I would've thought everything was good. I didn't say goodbye that day because I know we will meet again. Sending my condolences to all the family. Theoria Barnes

I know God is saying... "Well Done Thou Good And Faithful Servant"... I praise God for assigning you to St. Paul's College, where you groomed many for leadership... it was under your guidance that we were taught to display the full attributes of what we had to offer as individuals and as an HBCU... and I thank you for that! I'm also grateful to God for him purposing you to our college's gospel choir, because it was there that my relationship with him fully developed... I thank you for being instrumental in that process as well...So Rest In Him Jamilla and know that you are truly loved and will be missed! Sherman T. Hawkins, Jr. Class of 1987~SPC

My heart is saddened. I thought of you multiple times last week. Wondering how you were doing. I should have reached out. God was trying to tell me something and I didn't listen. But I am so thankful that the last time we texted and saw each other you Jamilla was praising God in the mist of her struggle.
