Mr. Goode was my Principal at Henry Elementary. He was such a humble sweet and caring man. He always encouraged me no matter the situation and always believed in me. I'm so sorry for y'all's loss. Prayers and Thoughts
Condolences to the Goode family. I am also one of the many students he served over at Henry Elementary in the 90's. A wonderful and caring man and role-model to all of his students.
While attending Pilgrim Baptist as a guest of Ms. Lillian DeShazo, one Sunday, I was introduced 2 'Brother' Goode & we immediately bonded! 1stly, we found out that we had the same birthdate-March 5th(though mine is 1957) & then we found out that we were Fraternity Brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc! Though that was our only mtg, GOD blessed me 2 attend that Sunday service & in so doing, I was blessed 2 be uplifted in sharing time with Brother Goode! 🙏🏿
It breaks my heart to find that we have lost "our Jesse B Goode". We all loved him. He taught with my granny, Grace Holley. He had me in the wondrous 4/7 split, he entrusted us to teach those 4th graders. I then became a teacher myself. We have since lost my brothers, Judd and Mike, they truly admired you! Thank you so much for sharing such a fine man with us, Martinsville, Henry County, and Franklin County. We were all truly blessed! Rebecca "Holley" Pierce

Kirk and Family, I am so overwhelmed with emotion at the transition of my dear friend and your father, Jesse. Blessings, Love and Sympathy. You are not alone on this journey. Jesse loved you and his memories will sustain you. Marguerite and Tim
Jesse was a respected colleague and dear friend to me when I joined the faculty at Henry Elementary as the first full time librarian in 1974. I was amazed at his versatility in handling a split grade classroom and giving his 4/7 (I think) kids a great learning opportunity. He was a gentleman and very tactful. Once I needed to get to Roanoke afterschool and asked him if he'd mind giving a carpooling coworker a lift back to the Martinsville area so I could get in my way earlier. A recent transplant from New York, I didn't understand the difficult position I was putting him in. He delicately explained that I would need to make sure it would be acceptable to the other teacher AND her husband before he, a black man, could give her, a white woman, a ride home. It all worked out but it certainly opened my eyes. Rest In Peace my friend. Condolences to Jesse's family. A bright light has gone from our world.
Dear Kirk: We pray the love of God enfolds you during your journey through grief. We send you thought of comfort. RIP dear cousin June!

Mr.Goode was my principal in elementary school. I spent a lot of time in his office because I was a problem child. Through our talks and his love to see students succeed he changed my life. He became like a father to me. Rest easy my friend you were truly the best educator I ever had.
Oh my heart is broken. Not only was he the assistant principal my two years at BFMS ( first two years it was open) he was my children's principal at Henry Elementary and they absolutely loved him. They thought it was cool that he had been my principal too and took my yearbook to show him. 😊 He was such a kind and caring person. He will definitely be missed. Prayers for his family. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I was one of Mr. Goodes first students at Henry Elementary. And he also was my daughters principle later. Great Educator, and Man, he made a difference in a lot of students lives. Mr. Goode made a difference in this world and it was a better place because of him.
I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Goode's passing. He was already teaching at Henry Elementary when I first began my teaching career. It was an honor to work with him at that time, but even more so, when he later returned to Henry as our principal. He was, indeed, a kind, quiet gentleman and will be missed. Your family has my prayers for comfort. May he rest in peace. Karen Clifton
