John D Millner, son of the late Jessie Willie and Mary D. Millner was born on July 29, 1930, in Henry County, Virginia. He passed away on the morning of July 18, 2022, making his life stay 91 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Jessie Willie, Robert, Joe, David, and James Millner: five sisters, Nannie Scales, Katherine Shelton, Dorothy Scott, Sally Adams, and Mable Penn.
John “Johnny” became a member of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church of the Apostolic Doctrine years ago where he attended faithfully serving as a Trustee, the Assistant Chairman of the Deacon Board, on the Culinary Dept, sang in the Golden Sanctuary Voices of Praise and Brotherhood Choirs, the Transportation Dept, serving as Shiloh’s first bus driver and mechanic.
Johnny was a devoted father who loved his family. He loved to work outside from sunup to sundown…cutting grass, wood, plowing the garden, snowplowing, and was willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. There were certain times of the year that he would make sure, his sisters had a certain fertilizer for their flowers to help them grow. He was a mechanic, and a jack of many trades. Johnny loved his church and working for the Lord. He made sure his children were faithful in service as well.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Irene P. Millner of the home; two sons, Gyrome Brim and J. Anthony (Beverly) Millner of Martinsville, VA; two daughters, Loretta Vanessa and Sibyl Celeste Millner of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Rontrell (Danielle) Brim of Virginia Beach, VA, JoVen (Tosheena) Millner of Martinsville, VA, Semekia (Orlando) Gravely of Greensboro, NC, and Daniel (Alisha) Millner of Loganville, GA; twelve great-grandchildren, Elijah, Joshua, Noah and Titus Brim of Virginia Beach, VA, Alivia, Jonaven, Jon David Millner of Martinsville, VA, Grace and Taylor Gravely of Greensboro, NC, Aidan, Dylan, and Nicolas Millner of Loganville, GA; two sisters, Claudia Payne of Ridgeway, VA and Lilly Crutchfield of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
