On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Larry Donald Mebane 74, of Birchwood Rd., Axton, VA transitioned peacefully at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. He was born in Mebane, NC on March 23, 1950, the son of the late George J. Mebane and Claudia Elnora Vincent Mebane. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Marvia P. Mebane.
Larry was a member of New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Male Chorus, Senior Choir, and a member of the Custodial staff. Larry was a graduate of Central High School, Graham, NC. He retired as an independent truck driver after forty years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Larissa Mebane Woods (Preston) of Richmond, VA; two grandsons; two brothers, Leon Mebane of Birmingham, AL and Kenneth Mebane of Graham, NC; one sister, Naomi Ingram of Elon, NC; two stepdaughters, Jeanette Preston of Roanoke, VA and Rochell McKenzie (Marvin) of Chatham, VA; three stepsons, Sherman Payne of Martinsville, VA, Christopher Payne (Margaret) of Roanoke, VA and Mark Payne of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church,3593 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA with Pastor Larry Penn, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Dickerson Family Cemetery, Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will be receiving friends during this time.
